Bracken UMC is a member of the New Life Emmaus/Chrysalis Group, part of the Rio Texas Conference.
The "Walk to Emmaus" is a 72-hour experience, usually at a retreat center, beginning on a Thursday evening and ending Sunday evening. During this time you will live and study together in singing, prayer, worship and discussion. Discussions center around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy. These talks present the theme of God's grace, and how that grace comes alive in the Christian Community and expresses itself in the world. You'll also discover how grace is real in your life, and how you can live in the life of grace, bringing grace to others.
If you would like more information about the Walk to Emmaus or a Chrysalis Flight, please contact the church office.
Our Financial Stewardship ministries include Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class, Job Skills Lesson and a course from the Methodist Foundation entitled “Putting Your House in order” about estate planning.
These classes are offered on a recurring basis and as demand requires, please contact the church office for more information.
The class will cover interview techniques and attire, how to write a resume and how to apply for jobs.
Putting Your House in Order
Putting Your House in Order is a popular two-hour workshop that guides participants through some of life’s toughest planning tasks. Samples of living wills and other important documents are discussed. A 33-page workbook [cost $10] is included to aid in making important decisions.

A big THANK YOU goes to everyone who donated food to the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers on May 10. The Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program (RACAP) was the recipient of all the food collected in Schertz and Cibolo, and we are so grateful. We are so blessed to begin the summer with a full pantry.
The number of families coming to RACAP for assistance continues to be high. Last month RACAP helped 89 families with a total of 244 people. 177 people were fed from our pantry. We helped 26 families pay past due rent and 25 families pay past due utility bills. We helped 4 people without insurance purchase their prescribed medications. Your monetary donations make this all possible, and we thank you for your generosity.
Please remember RACAP and the volunteers in your prayers this summer when the demands for our help greatly increase. Many times last summer, clients were lined up out the door. When the children are out of school for the summer, they do not receive the free breakfast or lunch they have been used to. Many families cannot afford the extra food and turn to RACAP for help feeding their hungry children. Have you ever had to choose between paying rent or a utility bill, or buying food to feed your family? That is the dilemma many of our clients face, so they turn to RACAP for help. God is always so faithful to supply what we need at just the time we need it, and give us patience under pressure. If you have some extra time this summer and would like to volunteer at RACAP, please call Jessie Fisher at 210-658-1613. RACAP is located at 307 Pfeil Street in Schertz, and is open Monday thru Friday from 1 to 3pm.
Thank you for helping RACAP show God’s love to those in need.
Monetary donations for fresh produce and meat are also needed. Your food donations can be brought to Fellowship Hall and placed in a blue tub in front of the church office, labeled RACAP.

A ministry of healing through Bracken UMC. A group of ministry servants knits shawls and prays over them as a small cross is attached. The shawls are given to anyone who is in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing, within the congregation or outside of the congregation. Contact the Shawl Ministry if you have a person in need of this ministry.
Please visit the national Shawl Ministry Association for more information about other Shawl Ministries throughout the country.

United Methodist Men
The Bracken United Methodist Men's Group (BUMMs) strives to serve our community and God's church through missional and humanitarian outreach, and are involved in various projects throughout the year. To help guide us, we have adopted the following mission statement: We will glorify God through our commitment to spiritual leadership, community outreach and faithful service to God’s Church.
If you are concerned about giving money to the homeless, but want to help them in some way, the BUMMs have put together bags to pass out to the homeless. They include a juice box, a granola bar, a bible and a list of shelters along with their address and contact information. These bags can be kept in your car and handed out to anyone you feel might need the help. You can pick up the bags in the Sanctuary, and we are asking for a donation to help us continue this outreach (recommended $3.00/bag donation, but feel free to donate as much as you would like).
